Calorie Labelling Introduced

14 May, 2021

From April 2022 mandatory calorie labels on menus will come into effect for large hospitality businesses.

If "out-of-home food businesses" have more than 250 employees they will have to display calorie information for all non-pre-packed food and soft drink items. This information will need to be displayed on menus or at the 'point of choice' for the customer.

This follows earlier measures announced such as a ban on junk food adverts before 9pm and supermarket two-for-one deals. Public health minister Jo Churchill stated that this suite of anti-obesity measures would "make it as easy as possible for people to make healthier food choices."
