UK Plastic Packaging Tax - Effective 1st April 2022

26 August, 2021

From 1st April 2022, there will be a tax applied to all plastic packaging that does not contain a minimum of 30% recycled plastic material. This will include the following items:

  • Drinks bottles
  • Products intended for single use - disposables knives, forks, spoons, stirrers, plates
  • Bin liners, refuse sacks, nappy sacks
  • Vending machine cups
  • Plastic wine or pint glasses
  • PP microwavable food containers
  • Plastic bags
  • Bioplastics that are biodegradable, compostable and oxo degradable.

The payment of this tax will ultimately be the responsibility of the importer or manufacturer, but ultimately will find its way onto the cost of goods.

At Regency, we've been in touch with all our supply partners and have been informed that if changes to the manufacturing process are required but haven't yet been implemented, they will be complete before the deadline in order to avoid the tax.

If you would like a member of our team to complete a full review of your packaging, please get in touch.
