It’s time to look forward when it comes to produce.
March can have seasonal pitfalls whilst product is in transition there is some early summer produce that is starting to appear in the market.
First Jersey Royal potatoes will be arriving but please remember these will come from the covered crops and will be expensive until the outdoor harvest begins. General potato varieties are still plentiful with pricing remaining extremely competitive and low.
English cauliflower from all regions is good quality and there is plenty of English root vegetables available which when utilised on your menu are great value for money.
Salad leaf remains in good supply at present with the first of tunnel grown English product to be arriving at the end of the month.
Just be mindful we are getting closer to when the salad season changes from Spanish to Dutch with English following in the next 4 to 6 weeks so you may see some turbulence in quality and pricing as a result.
Spanish lemons are now in full flow and there is also a great supply of Spanish oranges. English and French season apples still have good availability but will be moving over to the southern hemisphere in the next 4-6 weeks.
