The Night Time Industry Association (NTIA) has warned that the current shortage of security workers in the UK could become a "threat to public safety".
It’s being reported that staffing levels are below 70% of what they should be due to people leaving their jobs during the pandemic, with Brexit and a lack of EU workers also contributing factors.
One in five venues are believed to have closed or cut hours due to a lack of security staff and nightclub bosses are appealing to the Government to step in, particularly as we are now approaching the busy festive period.
Over the Christmas season, venues generally require around 30% more security staff. Venue licenses state how many staff they need to open safely, and if they haven’t got them, they will have to close for the safety of the public.
Nightclub owners are now asking the Government to issue temporary visas for EU workers to come and fill empty roles.
