Supporting The Liberation Group’s growth and refurbishment programme

26 August, 2021

Regency Purchasing Group has been proudly working with The Liberation Group, owner of Butcombe Brewery, for almost 10 years. Our partnership has continued to strengthen as their business has evolved and, in recent months, experienced significant growth.

Formed in 2008, The Liberation Group acquired Butcombe Brewery in 2015, and since then has continued to acquire new sites as well as completing extensive refurbishments throughout the portfolio.

In December 2020, the group acquired a further 21 sites from Wadworth Brewery and during lockdown, six of these properties, as well as a further site that was already part of the estate, underwent transformational refurbishments.

The team at Regency Purchasing Group worked closely with Liberation Group team to manage supplier accounts, secure group pricing and oversee delivery schedules, while ensuring all supplier and purchasing data was accurate within their procurement system.

We worked with their team of Executive Chefs, to review menus, calculate forecasts and we placed opening orders for each establishment, and working alongside the Area Executive team, we sourced and managed the supply of all new crockery, kitchen equipment and non-food items for each of the new sites.

Our dedicated Procurement Manager was so committed to a successful launch that when a supplier delivery was delayed, she drove to the depot herself, collected the required stock and drove over 100 miles to deliver it to the site to ensure there was adequate stock levels for opening.

The partnership between The Liberation Group and Regency Purchasing Group continues to go from strength-to-strength. Based on purchasing in July 2021, an impressive 95% of all spend by Butcombe Brewery (including food, non-food, disposables and chemicals), was purchased through Regency Purchasing Group suppliers.

Procurement Manager – Carole Stainforth

"When we started out, we had 10 pubs and over 35 different food suppliers. We also had low GPs and needed to increase the profitability across the group. When we acquired a further 15 venues, these challenges only increased further and that's when we partnered with Regency, to allow us to regain control. Now, I see Regency more as a department of our own company; more than just a supplier. They've supported us with not only our purchasing needs, but also our customer service and they can quickly adapt when we acquire new venues, or when our existing venues change from managed sites to tenancies. Our overall experience has been fantastic; we have a very close working relationship."
