UKHospitality Key Asks for Spring Budget 2023

15 February, 2023

On 15th March, the Chancellor will reveal the Spring Budget, and given the current economic situation, the decisions taken will be critical to the health of the hospitality industry.

UKHospitality has submitted a response, outlining their keys asks of Government to help support business growth in hospitality.

Hospitality is a mainstay of Britain's 'everyday economy' and can be key in tackling inflation and generating economic growth, given the right support in the Budget. UKHospitality's submission focuses on the ability of our sector to invest in people, places and growth.

The UKHospitality Budget submission calls on the Government to:

  • Introduce a new lower business rates multiplier, as part of delivering the Government's manifesto commitment to fundamentally review rates to make our tax system fit for purpose
  • Implement minor, short-term immigration reforms to counter the sales being lost due to labour shortages, particularly abolishing or reducing the Immigration Skills Charge and offering more flexibility to students to work longer hours
  • Introduce a temporary, reduced rate of VAT to mitigate against the extraordinarily high energy prices businesses are facing, to stimulate growth and cut costs
  • Reform the Apprenticeship Levy to enable funding to be used for other forms of training and to change its operation to offer greater flexibility to employers and employees over training
  • Give clear direction to OFGEM to intervene in the non-domestic energy market and instruct suppliers to renegotiate inflated contracts.

To influence Government to act, it is vital that hospitality businesses back this calls in great numbers. UKHospitality is asking operators to write to your MP (and ask your employees to do the same) by signing the below iParl letters and showing your support.
