Food Trend Predictions

28 October, 2020

Various outlets have begun their 2021 food trend predictions and one thing they all seem to have in common so far is the shift in consumer preferences as a result of the global pandemic.

Consumers are drawn more towards food and beverages that naturally contain beneficial ingredients or products that are directly linked to health and wellness.

Nostalgia is shaping up to be a big food trend for the next 12 months as people turn to flavours and familiar dishes for comfort in these stressful times.

Plant-based foods and proteins are still being touted as another big trend for next year, with the dairy alternative category growing to encompass treat-based items such a yoghurt and ice cream, with market leaders such as Ben & Jerry’s having released vegan-friendly lines this year.

The increase in the number of consumers cooking from scratch is predicted to continue into the New Year, which in terms of the on-trade sector, means that customers may become more interested in the ingredients in their dishes, with many opting to try healthier or perhaps more adventurous dishes when dining out.
