The global coronavirus pandemic brought just about every industry across the world to a standstill as countries placed their residents in lockdown. Although the world has begun to reopen, delays in film production have meant that the cinema chain Cineworld have had to make the decision to temporarily close all of their UK sites over the next few weeks.
5,500 jobs are at risk with staff being asked to accept redundancy in the hope of re-joining the theatre chain when it reopens hopefully in 2021. Blockbuster films such as the new James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’ have been delayed several times leading to a loss of £1.3 billion for the six months up to June by the chain.
