Freshview Foods play their part in British Food Fortnight

23 September, 2025

British Food Fortnight is the nation’s biggest celebration of homegrown food and drink, and at Freshview Foods we’re proud to play our part.

Every day, our drivers collect produce direct from local farms, ensuring the freshest seasonal ingredients reach our customers within hours of being harvested. Backed by our BRC accreditation, you can trust that every delivery meets the highest standards of food safety and quality.

But it’s not just fresh produce, we also partner with some of the finest British suppliers to bring authentic, locally made products straight to you:

Fruits

British growers produce a wide variety of delicious and nutritious fruits, many of which are in peak season during British Food Fortnight. Some popular fruits grown in the UK include:

  • Apples: With over 2,500 varieties, British apples are a staple of autumn. Traditional types like Cox’s Orange Pippin, Egremont Russet, and Bramley are prized for their taste and versatility.
  • Pears: British Conference pears are a seasonal favourite, known for their sweet, juicy flesh and firm texture.
  • Berries: The UK’s temperate climate is ideal for soft fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and gooseberries. Our Local Staffordshire strawberries are finishing a little earlier this year with the summer heat.
  • Plums: Varieties such as Victoria and Marjorie’s Seedling are grown primarily in Worcestershire and are popular for eating fresh or making preserves.
  • Outdoor rhubarb in summer comes from Cheshire. Forced rhubarb from the Rhubarb Triangle is a 9-square-mile (23 km) area of West Yorkshire, England between Wakefield, Morley, and Rothwell famous for producing early forced rhubarb.

Vegetables

The UK has a rich tradition of vegetable growing, with farms across the country supplying a wide array of seasonal veg, especially during the autumn harvest. These include:

  • Carrots: Grown across the UK. British carrots are available nearly year-round.  Our carrots are locally sourced in Lancashire
  • Chantenay carrots grown by Freshgro in Nottingham are carbon neutral now.  They also grow piccolo parsnips and the tri colour chantenay Carrot
  • Cabbages and Brassicas: Varieties like Savoy, red cabbage, kale, and Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tenderstem broccoli, purple sprouting broccoli are iconic parts of British agriculture all bought in Lancashire
  • Root Vegetables: Parsnips, swedes, turnips, and beetroots are key autumn crops. British-grown roots are valued for their flavour and suitability to cooler climates.
  • Leeks sourced from Lancashire
  • Vale of Evesham asparagus, when in season.

Salads

While salads are often associated with summer, many British-grown salad leaves and vegetables are available well into the autumn. These include:

  • Lettuces: Varieties such as Little Gem, Romaine, are grown and collected in areas like Lancashire.
  • Lollo rosso, lollo biondi, oakleaf lettuces from Cheshire
  • Rocket, Spinach, and Watercress: These leafy greens are grown both outdoors and in greenhouses, providing fresh options throughout much of the year, we purchase from Evesham
  • Tomatoes and Cucumbers: Though traditionally grown under glass, advancements in greenhouse technology have allowed British growers to extend their growing season and compete with imports.
  • We use our Evesham grower for micro herbs, and heritage tomatoes.
