The Owners of Regency Purchasing group have completed the acquisition of the town’s former seafront aquarium with plans to transform the site into a new ‘concept’ coffee shop and restaurant.
Sitting in a prominent location just 800 meters from the Grand Pier; also owned by the owners of Regency Purchasing Group, the aquarium closed its doors in March 2019 and has stood empty for almost two years.
Following the acquisition this week, they plan to inject £1.5M into redeveloping the 15,000sq ft site, creating a coffee shop, bakery, restaurant, bar and sea-facing terrace. A retro-themed mini golf complex will also be part of the ambitious redevelopment project.
Regency Purchasing Group Director, Alex Demetriou said: “We’re excited to announce that work has commenced on the redevelopment of the SeaQuarium.
The building has been an iconic landmark on Weston’s seafront for the past 20 years, so we’re excited to be bringing this derelict former attraction back to life, continuing to support the town’s regeneration.
The project is already making good progress and we’re hopeful that works can be completed to coincide with the relaxation of the pandemic restrictions.”
The new acquisition strengthens our Purchasing Groups own estate providing us with additional insight into being owner-operators.
