The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported a national outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis, with 207 confirmed cases and one associated death reported as of 13 August 2026.

Cases have been identified across the UK, with the highest numbers in London and Yorkshire and the Humber. Investigations have identified egg consumption, particularly food prepared outside the home, as the strongest epidemiological link.

There is currently no identified link to UK-produced eggs or poultry, with investigations focusing on imported eggs as a potential source. The overall risk to the public remains low.

What this means for Regency members:

We have reviewed the latest information and contacted relevant suppliers across our egg supply chain. At present, we have not been notified of any supply chain issues.

As a precaution, we recommend that sites:

• Check they are using UK Lion Mark eggs
• Continue to order Lion Mark eggs only
• Ensure eggs are handled hygienically and thoroughly cooked

The FSA advises that infants, young children, pregnant people and older adults should only consume raw or lightly cooked eggs if sourced from British Lion Scheme producers or the Laid in Britain assurance scheme.

We will continue to monitor updates from UKHSA, the FSA and our supplier partners and will communicate any further guidance should the situation change.
