Regency becomes BIAZA Corporate Associate

3 August, 2023

Regency Purchasing Group is proud to have recently been accepted as a BIAZA Corporate Associate.

The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) is the professional body representing over 100 of the best zoos and aquariums in the UK and Ireland.

With over 20 BIAZA members already benefiting from support from Regency Purchasing Group, we’re thrilled to now be working with this well-respected association.

At Regency, we really understand zoo and farm park businesses; we’re a family-operated business which all started when Managing Director, Alex Demetriou’s Grandfather diversified his farming business and moved into catering. Now, alongside our purchasing services, we own and operate a portfolio of leisure and hospitality sites.

We’re looking forward to working with BIAZA members to help them overcome current inflationary pressures, while using our first-hand experience as operators to provide consultancy services and operational support/advice.

As sustainability continues to be a huge focus for us at Regency, we’re particularly keen to support BIAZA members with their sustainability efforts.

Zoos and aquariums have a special responsibility, as they care for live animals and run breeding programmes for endangered species. Not only do zoos educate schools and the public about animal conservation, but they are well placed to engage their visitors, both young and old, in the wider challenges of achieving a more sustainable society.

The team at Regency actively encourage members to implement changes to reduce their environmental impact – eliminating single-use products, advising on forward-planning and demand-level forecasting to reduce carbon footprint/food miles/waste, introducing new technology and only working with responsible suppliers.

Six years ago we successfully removed all single-use plastic at BIAZA member Banham Zoo (which we went on to do for countless other businesses) and for Butcombe Brewery’s pubs we reduced food miles by 280,000+ miles.
